Concept Note
The field of higher education in India is undergoing significant transformation with the implementation of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020. A key initiative under this framework is the Malaviya Mission, introduced by the University Grants Commission (UGC) to enhance faculty development, institutional governance, and academic excellence in Higher Education Institutions (HEIs).
Recognizing the relevance of this initiative, the Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC), Mar Thoma College, Tiruvalla, is organizing a session to examine the objectives and scope of the Malaviya Mission and its implications for higher education.
About the Malaviya Mission
The Malaviya Mission Teacher Training Programme seeks to equip educators with the necessary skills and knowledge to meet the evolving demands of the higher education sector. This initiative focuses on:
Faculty training and pedagogical advancements
Institutional governance and academic leadership
Multidisciplinary education and curriculum enhancement
Digital and technology-driven learning frameworks
Inclusivity in higher education and student engagement
Research and skill development for contemporary academic challenges
To implement these objectives, 111 Malaviya Mission Centres have been established across the country, replacing the earlier Human Resource Development Centres (HRDCs). These centres function as Madan Mohan Malaviya Teachers’ Training Centres, facilitating structured faculty training programs in alignment with the broader goals of NEP 2020.
Objectives of the Session
Examine the scope and objectives of the Malaviya Mission
Discuss its role in faculty development and institutional governance
Explore its alignment with the broader framework of NEP 2020
Consider the challenges and opportunities in implementing the initiative within HEIs
Target Audience
The session is intended for faculty members, academic administrators, and individuals engaged in higher education policy, pedagogy, and institutional development.
