Post Graduate and Research Department of Zoology in Mar Thoma College, Tiruvalla, celebrated “WORLD ENVIRONMENT DAY 2024”on 07-06-2024 at 2.30 pm in the Mini Conference Hall. World Environment Day 2024 focuses on land restoration, halting desertification and building drought resilience under the slogan “Our land. Our future. We are #GenerationRestoration.”
Dr. Mathew Varkey T. K., Principal of Mar Thoma College presided over the programme. The meeting started with a prayer song by Ms. Aseena M, II B.Sc. Zoology student. Ms. Aparna Santhosh, II M.Sc.Zoology Student of the Department of Zoology welcomed the gathering. The programme was inaugurated by Dr. Abhilash R., Assistant Professor & Research Guide, Department of Zoology, Christian College, Chengannur. Dr. Abhilash R conducted a class on the topic “Climate Change Hazards and Mitigation, Need of Changing Lifestyle”. He discussed about the reality of the climate crisis, providing concrete solutions for people who are already on the move, for people who want to move, and for those who want to stay. The aim of the programme was to aware the students to create and maintain the conditions under which humans and nature can exist in productive harmony to support present and future generations and protect and conserve critical environmental resources and invaluable natural and man- made heritage which are essential for life-supporting livelihoods and welfare of the society.Students from the department and the other departments together with the faculty members attended the programme. Dr. Raju Thomas K. Head of the Department of Zoology and Dr. Sunitha A. Philip, Association President also conveyed their concern about climate change hazards. Ms. Gisa G. Sabu, III DC Zoology Student rendered the vote of thanks and the programme came to an end by 1.00pm.
