About the College
The Mar Thoma Syrian Church of Malabar, one of the oldest Syrian Christian Churches founded by St. Thomas in India, entered the realm of higher education by establishing a College in Tiruvalla, the Headquarters of the Church. The Church, which had pioneered many social and humanitarian projects, was thus responding to a dire need of the society in the field of higher education by founding Mar Thoma College in 1952. The college grew fast, even beyond the dreams of founding fathers and now it is one of the most reputed Colleges in the state and is a glowing example of the vision of the Church and its commitment to the needs of the society.
The late Most Rev. Dr. Juhanon Mar Thoma Metropolitan, the late Rt. Rev. Dr. Mathews Mar Athanasius, late Most Rev. Dr. Alexander Mar Thoma Valiya Metropolitan and the late Mr. K.K Kuruvilla and many others contributed in no small measure to the growth and development of this institution. The present Manager of the College is Rt. Rev. Dr. Euyakim Mar Coorilos Suffragan Metropolitan.
From a small beginning with 250 students and 12 teachers, the college has grown into a premier educational institution with over 1500 students on the rolls, over 80 members on the teaching staff and about 45 members on the non-teaching staff. The college presently offers 12 under graduate and 11 post graduate programmes and several non-formal courses. The College also has seven bonafide research departments offering full time research facility leading to Ph.D.
The College, accredited by the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) in 1998, the first college to do so in Kerala, attained the unique distinction on being the first re-accredited college with A-Grade in Mahatma Gandhi University. The College is affiliated to Mahatma Gandhi University, Kottayam and comes under the 2(f) & 12(b) category of the University Grants Commission.

College Prayer
Lord, our father, eternal God, before whose face generations rise and pass away, age after age the living seek Thee and find that of Thy faithfulness there is no end. Our fathers in their pilgrimage walked by Thy guidance and rested in Thy mercy. Still, to their children be Thou the cloud day by day, the fire by night. We in this College look up to Thee in thankfulness for the founders of this institution and for those who have laboured for building up noble traditions. We remember those who have passed from this College and are engaged in different walks of life. Be to them their strength and stay. Be to us O Lord, our guiding star for a life of service in the pilgrim way.
Amen
College Anthem
Hail Alma Mater, hail to thee!
Mar Thoma College, hail to thee!
E’er to you we’ll sing your beauty
All through life we’ll raise your banner
All through life we’ll pace the path of
Knowledge, truth and goodliness
E’er this our motto be.
Hail Alma Mater, hail to thee!
Mar Thoma College, hail to thee!
Hymns of praise we’ll sing joyously
Ne’er forgetting what you gave us
Drinking from your spring of sweetness
Mercy, peace and service lofty-
E’er this our motto be.
