Community Extension – Health awareness programme
The Medical Club of Mar Thoma College, Tiruvalla organised a health awareness programme on 30-07-24 at 10.30PM. in the Community Hall of Kakkathuruthu Village. Dr. Mathew Varkey T K., Principal, Mar Thoma College, Tiruvalla presided the meeting. The meeting started with a prayer song by Ms. Saina Susan James, I M. Sc. Zoology student. Dr. Sunitha A Philip., convener of the medical club welcomed the gathering. Dr. Joe Abraham, Assistant Professor & Consultant,Department of Community Medicine, Pushpagiri Medical College, Tiruvalla inaugurated the Programme. In the inaugural session he explained the causes and risk factors of infectious diseases spread through direct and indirect contact, impact on communities, prevention and control measures etc.After inaugural session, Dr Preetha Jackson (PG Residents, Dept. of Community Medicine, Pushpagiri Medical College, Tiruvalla) and Dr Charisma Grace Varghese (PG Residents, Dept. of Community Medicine, Pushpagiri Medical College, Tiruvalla) conducted classes on “Diseases during rainy season”. (മഴക്കാലരോഗങ്ങൾ). In this session they explained the causes and symptoms of different types of common rainy season diseases and how understanding the common rainy season diseases and their prevention is crucial for maintaining good health. They explained the simple measures like maintaining hygiene, using mosquito repellents, ensuring safe drinking water, and avoiding flooded areas can significantly reduce the risk of these diseases. This class was to enlighten the residents of Kakkathuruthu village. About 50 members including teachers, Residents of Kakkathuruthu village and students of Mar Thoma College participated and actively involved in the discussion. After the class, Dr. Susan Thomas, Asst. Pro. of Zoology and the committee member of the Medical Club proposed the vote of thanks. The meeting came to an end by 12:45 p.m.
