Empowering One Another

The Women Empowerment Cell of Mar Thoma College, Tiruvalla, in collaboration with the Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC), organized a session titled Basic Self-Defence under the theme “Empowering One Another.” The session was held on 12th February 2025 at 1:00 PM in the Media Center.

The session was led by Ms. Sean Ann Kuruvilla, a Second BA English student and a trained martial arts practitioner. She effectively demonstrated fundamental self-defence techniques, emphasizing personal safety, quick reflexes, and confidence-building strategies. The session provided students with hands-on experience in applying simple yet effective defence techniques in real-life situations.

A total of 46 students participated actively, engaging in interactive demonstrations and practical exercises. The session was highly appreciated, as students found it informative and empowering.

Faculty members Ms. Anu Ann James, Dr. Teena T Elizabeth, Dr. Sunitha A Philip, and Dr. Ansa C Prasad were present at the event and extended their support and encouragement. Their presence added value to the initiative and reinforced the importance of self-defence training.

The session concluded with positive feedback from participants, who expressed their appreciation for the practical skills imparted. This initiative successfully contributed to fostering self-confidence and awareness among students, aligning with the core mission of the Women Empowerment Cell in promoting safety and empowerment.
