Environment Day Observance Programme – History

On June 5, 2025, the History Association of Mar Thoma College, Tiruvalla, hosted an Environment Day Observance Programme at 1:00 PM in the F3 Classroom to mark World Environment Day. The event aimed to promote environmental awareness through a student-designed poster, faculty addresses, a pledge, a cultural performance, and a tree-planting initiative, engaging students and faculty in environmental advocacy.

Teena Sabu opened the programme with a warm welcome and skillful anchoring. Dr. K M Vishnu Namboodiri, Association President, delivered the presidential address, highlighting the role of academic institutions in fostering sustainability. Dr. Mathew Sam, Head of the Department of History, inaugurated the event and unveiled a student-designed poster that creatively addressed environmental challenges. Dr. Agney GK’s felicitation speech praised the initiative and emphasized individual responsibility in addressing climate change.

Krishna Sen’s student speech underscored critical environmental issues, inspiring action. Alan Sabu led an environmental pledge, reinforcing collective commitment to sustainability. Shaun K Geevarugheese performed a song celebrating nature, adding a cultural touch. Urmila Ushendran delivered the vote of thanks, acknowledging all contributors.

The event concluded with a tree-planting ceremony on campus and the distribution of saplings to all departments, symbolizing the college’s dedication to sustainability. The programme effectively combined academic engagement, student creativity, and practical environmental action, fostering a deeper commitment to a greener future.
