Exploring Contemporary Cinema

The PG Forum of the Department of English, Mar Thoma College, Tiruvalla hosted a webinar, ‘Flamingo’ featuring a keynote speech by Dr. Shambhu R, Assistant Professor, NSS College, Pandalam.

The event began with a welcome speech by Dr. Susan Thomas, Head of the Department. PG Forum President Dr. Neema Susan Mathews introduced the speaker, highlighting his academic credentials and research expertise.

Dr. Shambhu R elucidated the concepts of space, time and identity in modern and contemporary cinema, illustrating his points with examples from Hollywood and Malayalam films. His engaging lecture sparked a question-answer session, where participants deliberated on the pressing issues such as the glorification of violence and gender biases in recent movies.

The webinar attracted around 50 participants from various colleges in and around the region.

A vote of thanks was proposed by Ms. Feba Susan, a student representative, bringing the event to a close. The webinar was conducted through Gmeet.
