
Inauguration of the History Association
On 30 July 2025, the Department of History at Mar Thoma College, Tiruvalla, organised the Inauguration of the History Association for the academic year 2025-26, followed by a Welcome Event for the First Year BA History Honours students. The events, held in the College Seminar Hall, commenced at 10:00 AM and continued with an afternoon session, concluding at 3:30 PM. The programme was thoughtfully planned to foster intellectual engagement and a sense of community among students, faculty, and guests.
The inauguration began with a silent prayer, creating a moment of reflection. Mr. Alan Sabu, a member of the History Association, delivered a cordial welcome address, greeting the attendees and highlighting the association’s role in nurturing historical inquiry and camaraderie. His speech set an enthusiastic tone, encouraging students to actively participate in the association’s activities.
Dr. Mathew Varkey T.K., Principal of Mar Thoma College, delivered an inspiring speech, emphasizing the institution’s commitment to academic excellence and holistic development. He urged students to embrace the study of history as a means to understand societal dynamics and contribute meaningfully to the world. His words instilled a sense of purpose and pride in the academic community.
The chief guest, Dr. Lenin M. Lal, Syndicate Member of the University of Kerala, Post Doctoral Fellow, College Teacher, Panchayat Member, and Social Activist, inaugurated the History Association with a compelling address. Dr. Lal spoke on the significance of history in shaping critical perspectives and civic responsibility. Drawing from his multifaceted experiences, he encouraged students to approach their studies with intellectual curiosity and a commitment to social good, leaving a lasting impression on the audience.
Felicitations were offered by Dr. Mathew Sam, Head of the Department of History, who commended the association’s efforts and encouraged students to engage deeply with its initiatives. Dr. Agney G.K., a respected faculty member, extended his congratulations, emphasizing the value of collaborative learning. Dr. Santhosh Kaleb, another esteemed faculty member, also offered felicitations, motivating students to seize the opportunities provided by the association to enrich their understanding of history.
The morning session concluded with a vote of thanks by Mohd. Sinan, History Association Secretary. He expressed gratitude to Dr. Lenin M. Lal for his insightful address, the Principal and faculty for their guidance, and the students for their enthusiastic participation, acknowledging the collective effort behind the event’s success.
In the afternoon, the Welcome Event for the First Year BA History Honours students fostered a warm and inclusive environment. The session included interactive activities and addresses by faculty and senior students, designed to familiarize the newcomers with the department’s academic and cultural ethos. The event cultivated a sense of belonging, encouraging the freshers to embark on their academic journey with confidence. The programme concluded at 3:30 PM, leaving the students inspired and eager to begin their studies.
