Independence Day – NSS

On August 15, 2025, the NSS Units of the college celebrated India’s 79th Independence Day with great patriotism alongside the students of MCRD Navajyothi School, Thelliyoor.
The day’s events began with a ceremonial flag hoisting in the school courtyard. The esteemed chief guest, Mr. Doney Thomas Varghese, District Judge, Family Court, Pathanamthitta, hoisted the national flag. As the tricolor unfurled, the national anthem was sung in unison by all attendees, including students, faculty, staff, and guests, serving as a powerful reminder of the sacrifices of our freedom fighters.
Following the hoisting, the chief guest delivered a stirring address on the significance of Independence Day, urging the youth to become responsible citizens and active participants in nation-building. The event was welcomed by Rev. Sunil Mathew, Director of MCRD, with felicitations offered by Sr. Paulsy (Vice-Principal, MGM Special School), Mr. Anu Philip (Treasurer, Ranni-Nilackal Diocese), Mr. K.K. Johnson (Secretary, MCRD), and NSS Program Officers, Dr. P.J. Vargheese and Dr. Anitha George Varghese.
A highlight of the celebration was the cultural program, featuring performances by both the NSS volunteers and the students of Navajyothi School. NSS volunteers, dressed as freedom fighters like Mahatma Gandhi and Sarojini Naidu, helped instill a sense of history and freedom in the students.
Artist Nishad provided a remarkable artistic tribute with a painting titled “Operation Sindoor.” The artist invited all volunteers and students to participate, creating a sense of shared purpose. The painting served as a powerful tribute to the Indian Armed Forces and their recent military operation. Through his work, Nishad transformed the military action into a humanizing tribute to courage, sacrifice, and resilience, leaving a lasting impression on everyone.
The NSS volunteers also demonstrated their commitment to community service by conducting a cleanliness drive in the school’s veranda, dining area, and sensory and observatory rooms.
