Library
From a modest beginning right from the inception of the college, the Library has grown in space and collection in the tune of more than 65000 documents and subscribes to about 88 academic journals(Print). The library which was functioning at the first floor of the College was shifted to the Very Rev. V.P Mammen Memorial Hall in the beginning of the academic year 1959-60. The College library was graded as 1st grade library in 1970 by the state government. The library has now in addition to books and journals, a good collection of Microfische, CDROMs and Cassettes. A number of news magazines and dailies are also available for browsing. Bound Volumes of THE HINDU Newspaper from 1958 onwards , bound volumes of THE TIME, THE NATIONAL GEOGRAPHIC and other academic journals attract researchers & general public as well. The Library has also started an Archives Section with a modest collection of archival materials. On an average about 40000 books and about 25000 periodicals are issued every year, the references inside the library notwithstanding. The library is open to all members of the staff and students of the college and the users have direct access to the shelves in the stack room and reading hall. The classification system used is Dewey Decimal Classification ( DDC) and follows the Anglo American Cataloging Rules (AACR-11), and bar-coded accordingly. An online database of catalogue of books (OPAC), INTERNET and E -Mail services are made use of by students and staff of the college. The services of the library is automated using an integrated, window based, multi-user, menu driven library management software – LIBSOFT
A Career Corner functions in the library with the aim of providing useful hints in Career / Course Selection, Personality Development, Communication Skills etc. It organises seminars, discussions and provides relevant information regarding employment opportunities. The Career Corner has a splendid collection of career books and career journals. The Cell acts as a reference point for students preparing for the Competitive Examination like IAS , Bank Tests , UPSC Tests , UGC/ CSIR, TOEFL, GRE etc
An E-library & Learning Centre housing the UGC-NRC(Network Resource Centre), CD-ROM section, and access to programes of UGC –INFONET/ INFLIBNET also functions in the library. The e-library section is now a beneficiary of N-LIST (National Library and Information Services Infrastructure for Scholarly Content) providing access to more than 6000 electronic journals (with back volumes) and 97000 electronic books. The users from the college can access e-recourses and download articles required by them directly from the publisher’s website once they are duly authenticated as authorized users through servers deployed at the INFLIBNET Centre. The library has also designed a portal www.marthomacollegelibraryonline.org linking together ubiquitous network of educational and informative web sites to further the academic and career pursuits of users. The home page of the library portal is a gateway to log on to these web recourses, subject gateways, open access journals, theses and dissertations, digital libraries, careers sites, government sites, academic fact finders, youtube videos, utility soft wares etc.
The College Library have undertaken research projects on development of libraries in the area and also offers consultancy services in this regard.
