Mastermind Moments (M2 24)
The Department of Chemistry has launched a new academic initiative called Mastermind Moments(M2 24) to provide opportunities to students to interact with both national and international scientists. Chapter I of M2 24 was a significant academic gathering, featuring distinguished speaker and a profound discussion on cutting-edge topics in chemistry and materials science.
The event started at 2:00 PM with a warm welcome from Dr. Neema Ani Mangalam. Dr. Mathew Varkey T. K., the Principal of Mar Thoma College, then gave a speech highlighting the importance of academic events. The programme also featured a felicitation for Dr. Varughese Mathew, the former Principal of Mar Thoma College, Tiruvalla, honoring his contributions to the college. The main event was a talk by Dr. Jayan Thomas from the NanoScience Technology Center at the University of Central Florida. The session was chaired by Dr. Josmin P. Jose.
Dr. Thomas, an expert in nanotechnology, discussed “Making Electric Vehicle Bodies Store Energy.” He explained how new technologies like supercapacitors and batteries can be used in electric vehicles to promote clean energy. His research, which includes over 130 publications and many patents, focuses on innovative energy storage solutions. Dr. Thomas’s achievements have earned him several prestigious awards, such as the Fullbright Fellowship, R&D100 Award and the NSF CAREER Award. He also co-founded three companies related to his research. Dr. Thomas’s talk offered valuable insights into future research opportunities and the importance of energy storage. The event was a great success, providing students with important knowledge and inspiration. Dr. Jayan Thomas discussed the research and career opportunities in USA.
