Mar Thoma Multidisciplinary Congress (1st Edition)
A two-day National Multi-Disciplinary Congress, the first of its kind, on Environment Management and Education with the focal theme ‘Living with/for the Environment’ was organized by the college from 18th to 19th February, 2020. It is for the first time that an Arts and Science College in India organised such a congress, where Science and Social Science streams were brought under the same platform. A national-level project presentation competition and invited lectures on different dimensions of the focal theme were the main activities of the congress, which was opened to the students of Arts and Science colleges in India. Students from more than 60 colleges from all over the country attended the congress. It was inaugurated by Dr G M Nair, President Kerala Academy of Science in a function presided over by Prof. P J Kurian, former Deputy Chairman of the Rajya Sabha. The invited lectures were delivered by Dr K N Ninan (VSSC), Dr Manoj M G (CUSAT), Dr P K Shaji (Thiruvanathapuram), Dr George Varghese (Thiruvanathapuram) and Dr M Balasubramaniyam (ISEC, Bangaluru).
The award for the best project in the Science steam consisting of Rs. 25000 and citation was won by WCC Chennai, and the Jury prize (Rs 10000 and citation) by NSS College Changanacherry. Under the Social Science stream, the Jury prize was won by SB College, Changanacherry. The Congress was sponsored by The Kerala State Higher Education Councl (KSHEC). Dr Ajesh K Zachariah and Prof. Harish R served as convener and co-convener respectively.
