
NSS Seven-day Special Camp
The seven-day Special Camp of the NSS Unit of Mar Thoma College, Tiruvalla was held from 28th August to 3rd September 2025 at PMVHS, Peringara. The camp was designed to instill discipline, social commitment, and a spirit of community service among student volunteers through diverse sessions, awareness programmes, and hands-on activities.
Day 1 – 28 August 2025
The camp was inaugurated by Sri. Soman Thamarachalil, Block Panchayat Vice President. Dr. Mathew Varkey T. K., Principal of Mar Thoma College, delivered the presidential address. Felicitations were offered by Dr. P. J. Varghese and Dr. Anitha George Varghese, NSS Programme Officers.
In the evening, at 7:40 PM, an Ice-Breaking Session was conducted by Rev. Fr. Eldose K. Joy, NSS Programme Coordinator, Ernakulam District, which encouraged volunteers to interact and build camaraderie.
Day 2 – 29 August 2025
The day started with a morning assembly, flag hoisting, and physical exercise led by Mr. Aadish K. Anish, former Volunteer Secretary.
At 10:30 AM, Dr. Josmin P. Jose, former NSS Programme Officer of Mar Thoma College, conducted a session on “NSS for a Sustainable Future.”
At 2:00 PM, Mr. Binu Varghese, Excise Preventive Officer, led an Anti-Drug Awareness Class.
The day concluded with a cultural programme and camp evaluation at 8:00 PM.
Day 3 – 30 August 2025
After morning assembly, flag hoisting, and yoga practice, the day featured a Skill Training Programme at 10:00 AM by Rev. Shibu Samuel (CARD).
In the afternoon, Dr. Anju Mariam Joseph, Agricultural Officer, Peringara, delivered a class on sustainable farming practices.
At 5:00 PM, volunteers carried out an Anti-Drug Awareness Campaign at Peringara Junction.
The day also featured a Just a Minute Competition at 7:00 PM, where Jacob Johnson (II BA Political Science) was selected as the best performer.
The day ended with a cultural programme and evaluation.
Day 4 – 31 August 2025
The morning assembly and yoga session were followed by a Socio-Economic Survey from 10:30 AM to 2:00 PM at Ward 4 of Peringara Panchayat.
At 3:00 PM, the Fire and Rescue Department conducted a Fire and Safety Awareness Class.
Volunteers also created a school vegetable garden on the premises. The evening concluded with a cultural programme at 7:30 PM.
Day 5 – 1 September 2025
After morning assembly, volunteers cleaned the school premises at 10:00 AM.
At 11:30 AM, Dr. Magdelene and Dr. Jeby from Believers’ Hospital, Tiruvalla, conducted a Cancer Awareness Class.
At 2:30 PM, Ms. Janet Mariam Thomas, Counselor, Mar Thoma College, led a Counselling Session titled “Reflect and Recharge.”
At 5:30 PM, volunteers promoted eco-friendly entrepreneurship by selling handmade detergents, soaps, and dishwashing products to villagers.
Day 6 – 2 September 2025
The day started with morning assembly and physical exercise, followed by Onam Celebrations at the camp.
As part of “Snehapoorvam,” a fellowship programme with senior citizens of the village was organized.
Volunteers also carried out a Book Donation Programme at SNUP School, Chanthenkery.
A traditional Onam Sadya was served, creating a festive spirit.
In the afternoon, Mr. Abhijith, Faculty, Department of Political Science, conducted a Self-Care Session.
The day concluded with a cultural programme.
Day 7 – 3 September 2025
The final day began with morning assembly and a cleaning drive at the camp site.
Later, Dr. E. N. Sivadasan, NSS Programme Coordinator, and Dr. Devipriya, State Coordinator, visited the camp and interacted with the volunteers.
A closing meeting was held with dignitaries, after which the Closing Ceremony was conducted.
At 2:30 PM, volunteers dispersed, marking the successful conclusion of the camp.
