
NSS Units Celebrate World Environment Day
The NSS Units of Mar Thoma College, Tiruvalla celebrated World Environment Day on June 5, 2025, with a series of meaningful activities centered around environmental awareness and sustainability.
The programme began with a welcome speech by NSS volunteer Aron, setting the tone for the day’s proceedings. The presidential address was delivered by Dr. Mathew Varkey T.K., Principal, Mar Thoma College, who highlighted the need for collective responsibility in protecting the environment.
Adv. Elizabeth Mamman Mathai, Member of the Kerala Women’s Commission, graced the occasion as the chief guest. In her address, she emphasized the importance of observing Environment Day and urged students to contribute actively to building a greener future.
As part of the initiative, Joy Alukkas, Tiruvalla, generously donated saplings, which were distributed during the event. Mr. Thomas Koshy, Treasurer of the College, also spoke on the importance of environmental protection, appreciating the efforts of the NSS units.
An important highlight of the programme was the preparation and distribution of paper bags by students, promoting eco-friendly practices and reducing plastic usage.
Felicitations were offered by the NSS Programme Officers – Dr. P.J. Varghese and Dr. Sreelatha P.V., along with NSS volunteer Meenakshi, who lauded the commitment of the volunteers and the support of the college community.
The event concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by NSS volunteer Adeena, who expressed gratitude to all dignitaries, guests, and participants.
Following the college event, the NSS team visited their adopted school – MTLPS Kizhakkanmuthoor. Programme Officers Dr. P.J. Varghese, Dr. Anitha George Varghese, and Dr. Sreelatha P.V. led the visit, during which saplings were planted on the school campus and distributed among students to encourage eco-consciousness from a young age.
The event was a resounding success, reinforcing the NSS commitment to environmental care and community involvement.
