Prof. V. V. Achenkunju Memorial Science Seminar & Merit Evening

The PG and Research Department of Chemistry, Mar Thoma College, Tiruvalla, organized the 28th Edition of the Prof. V. V. Achenkunju Memorial Science Seminar & Merit Evening on 18 February 2026 at the Dr. Alexander Mar Thoma Memorial Golden Jubilee Block Seminar Hall. The seminar was conducted in loving memory of Prof. V. V. Achenkunju, whose academic legacy continues to inspire generations of students and scholars.
The programme commenced with a prayer song followed by the welcome address by Dr. Surya Philip, Convenor. The inaugural session was presided over by Dr. Ajesh K. Zachariah, Head of the Department, and Dr. Raju Thomas, Retired Faculty, delivered the inaugural address. Felicitations were offered by Mr. Thomas Koshy, Treasurer of the College.
The memorial lecture on “Fundamentals of Nanomaterials and Nanocomposites” was delivered by Prof. Dr. Soney C. George, Dean (Research), Amal Jyothi College of Engineering. In the afternoon plenary session, Prof. Dr. Sabu Thomas, Chairman of TrEST Research Park and Former Vice Chancellor of MGU, Kottayam, delivered an insightful talk on strengthening research within academic institutions and enhancing industry–academia interaction.
The rank holders and recipients of the Chief Minister’s Research Scholarship were honoured during the function. Felicitations were given by Dr. Nebu John, and prizes were distributed to the achievers. The programme concluded with a vote of thanks by Dr. Surya Philip, marking the event as a meaningful academic gathering that upheld the vision and values of the late Prof. V. V. Achenkunju.
