Science Forum: Nuclear Power Plants: Should Kerala Go for It?
The Science Forum of Mar Thoma College, Tiruvalla, hosted an enlightening program on November 8, 2024, addressing the pressing topic of nuclear energy, titled “Nuclear Power Plants: Should Kerala Go for It?”. The event was held at the Seminar Hall at 1:30 PM, for faculty, students, and enthusiasts interested in understanding the potential of nuclear energy for the state.
The program commenced with a solemn prayer, followed by a warm welcome by Dr. Josmin P. Jose, Convenor of the Science Forum. Dr. Mathew Varkey T. K., the College Principal, shared his remarks, emphasizing the timeliness of the topic, given the increasing energy demands and environmental concerns in Kerala. A note of felicitation was delivered by Mr. Manesh Jacob, a member of the Governing Council.
The highlight of the event was the talk by Mr. A. V. Sathish, Scientific Officer at the Kudankulam Nuclear Power Plant (KKNPP) and Officer-in-Charge of the Nuclear Information Centre. The event concluded with a vote of thanks by Dr. Anju K. Nair, faculty member of the Department of Physics.
