(Retd.), St Dominic’s College, Kanjirapally. Dr. Sharon Achamma Abraham, chaired the session.
In the first part of the session Dr. Baby Thomas dealt with the basics of computational methods
and in the second session he discussed about different types of computational chemistry
methods. The session came to an end by 12.30 pm.
The second session began at 1:30 pm which was led by Dr. S Prathapan, Professor
(Retd.), Department of Applied Chemistry, CUSAT. Dr. Josmin P. Jose chaired the session and
Dr. Prathapan dealt with the topic ‘Identification of simple organic compounds based on the
spectral data’. He explained how to interpret the spectral data of organic compounds and how it is
useful for elucidating their structures.
In the second day of workshop, the third session was led by Dr. C G Ramankutty,
Associate Professor (Retd.), UC College, Aluva and Prof. Serene Thomas chaired this session.
He discussed on the topic ‘Theory of Nuclear Magnetic Resonance Spectroscopy’ and in his talk
he gave an idea on basic principles of NMR spectroscopy.
The last session of the workshop was taken by Dr. Abi T.G., Associate Professor, Sacred
Heart College, Thevara which was chaired by Dr. Ajesh K Zachariah. He discussed on the topic
‘Practical Approach to Computational Chemistry’ which illustrated the practical applications of
Computational Chemistry.
After winding up all the sessions, during the valedictory meeting Prof. Mary Sarah
Cherian, Head of the Department of Chemistry, extended the love and gratitude to all who have
