Workshop on Creative Writing

The Literary Club of the college in association with the IQAC hosted a dynamic workshop on creative writing on January 31st, 2024, led by the accomplished writer and translator, Dr. Nithya Mariam John. Dr. Remi Cherian George, the club’s convenor, extended a warm welcome to all attendees, while the principal, Dr. Mathew Varkey TK, presided over the gathering and Dr. Sonia Anna Zachariah, IQAC coordinator, extended her heartfelt congratulations and best wishes to all the participants.
Focused on enhancing creative skills, the workshop provided a platform for advanced learning. Dr. Nithya Mariam John’s expertise guided participants through various writing techniques and exercises. Attendees explored the art of expression, discovering new dimensions of their creativity.
The workshop on creative writing and skill development was designed with the predominant goal of facilitating advanced learning among its participants. By honing their creative writing abilities, attendees were not only enhancing their literary skills but also engaging in a form of advanced learning that transcends traditional educational boundaries.
During the workshop, Dr. Nithya delved into the diverse and dynamic forms of contemporary poetry, shedding light on several innovative styles, including blackout poetry, slam poetry, and poetry installation. Dr. Nithya likely discussed blackout poetry, a unique form where existing text is selectively highlighted to create a new poetic work. Slam poetry, characterised by its raw emotion, performance aspect, and often socially or politically charged themes, was another focus of the discussion. Poetry installation was introduced as a form of artistic expression that transcends traditional written or spoken mediums. Poetry installations integrate poetry into physical spaces, such as public parks, galleries, or urban environments, to create immersive and interactive experiences for audiences.
By exploring these diverse forms of poetry, workshop participants had the opportunity to broaden their understanding of the genre and experiment with innovative ways to engage with language, creativity, and expression. Dr. Nithya’s insights likely inspired attendees to push the boundaries of their writing, encouraging them to explore new avenues of artistic exploration and self-expression.
As the workshop concluded, participants left with inspiration and a deeper understanding of the importance of creative writing in personal development. The event was a piece of evidence of the club’s commitment to encouraging literary excellence among its members.
