Mentoring

Mar Thoma College undertakes mass mentoring, by which the first year degree students are divided into small groups, each group under the care of a mentor, a faculty member. The mentor, as per the demands of time and situations, assumes the role of teacher, guide, counselor, motivator, advisor, role model and referral agent to the mentees, facilitating personal and professional growth. The mentor and mentee work together to reach specific goals and to provide each other with sufficient feedback to ensure that goals are reached.

Tutorial System

The college has a Tutorial System whereby the students are divided into small groups (15-20) each under a teacher. One regular hour per week is assigned in the general time-table for the Tutorial class. The tutors are free to engage more tutorial classes outside the regular working hours. The system serves the following functions:

  1. Good inter personal relationship between teachers and students.
  2. Value education.
  3. Free expression of views related to current affairs and ideologies.
  4. Personality development.
  5. Sharing the problems of students with their tutors.

The teachers guide and advise the students on matters pertaining to their studies and personal problems and also act as guardians of students on the campus. It is expected that the students, as well as their parents, keep in touch with the concerned teacher.
